Wimbledon Adopts Video Challenge System This Season.

The Championships tennis court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in implementing video review systems.

Replay systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.

Players will gain the option to question certain decisions made by the official, mirroring the system already in place at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.

This step comes just a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which terminated the 147-year role of line judges.

Reviewable Decisions

Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to request the umpire to review other situations, including:

  • Whether a ball has bounced twice.
  • Whether a ball touched an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Potential hindrance end of a rally.

Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of reviews a player can request.

Case in Point

A recent example took place in Indian Wells recently, where a top player initiated the video challenge against his opponent.

Draper conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his rival had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire watched a video and ruled the player was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Wider Implementation

Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at every one of its tournaments.

Further Updates

Another innovation at The Championships this year involves the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This solves situations where fans have sometimes been uncertain whether a ball was out or in.

In other news, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
