Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior official stated the attack left him speechless and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on a platform, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
